  • Arsenal play rivals Tottenham today with a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table

Manchester United caught rivals Manchester City out with two goals in a matter of minutes to record an important win that helped them to within six points of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

United are the only club to have beaten Arsenal this season, a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford, but the Gunners have been going stronger since then with the draw against Newcastle the only game they have not taken maximum points.

Former Reds, Rio Ferdinand has now sent a message to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta that they are part of his problems now, as he hoped to guide his team to a first league title since 2004.

As quoted by Metro, Ferdinand has sounded out warning to Arteta's men that the Reds are now a force to reckon with, after beating neighbors and current champions Manchester City in the derby.

''I just think the way Manchester United play, we’re a problem for Arsenal. Today we were a problem for Man City too. Even more so now because we’re more structured and harder to break down. Man City didn’t have that many chances,'' he said.

Maguire disagrees with Ferdinand

Sports Brief earlier reported that Harry Maguire will fight for his place at Manchester United after he was advised by Rio Ferdinand to leave the club after Luke Shaw now starts ahead of him in CB.

Maguire is facing a difficult time at the club and is obviously not on the long term plans of Erik Ten Hag, regardless of what he may say about the former Leicester City player.

He also started on the bench for the Manchester derby and was brought on in the final stages with the game already sealed.
