  • L'Equipe has unveiled its team of the year for 2022, with four EPL stars making the cut
  • The star-studded team is dominated by players from the English top-flight and the La Liga
  • Incredibly, there was no place for a single player from the Bundesliga, with Serie A having one representative
  • Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo are some of the star players who did not feature in the shortlist

French publication L'Equipe has named its team of the year for 2022 featuring four Premier League stars.

The players included in the list are thought to have played a significant role for either club or country after the busy football calendar which included the World Cup in Qatar.

According to The Sun, L'Equipe is renowned for its savage scoring of players and it is often considered a massive privilege to get rated by it.

Who made L'Equipe's team of 2022?

Despite his World Cup struggles, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was named between the sticks in the team of the year, primarily for his role in helping the La Liga giants win the Champions League.

Rising defensive star Josko Gvardiol earned his spot in the XI after emerging as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Gvaridol was named at the heart of defence alongside Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, with Theo Hernandez making the cut on left-back after he helped AC Milan win the Serie A.

Meanwhile, Man City's Kyle Walker was named in the right-back for his role in the team's Premier League triumph.

In midfield, City's playmaker Kevin De Bruyne was included alongside Casemiro and Real's Luka Modric.

PSG ace Kylian Mbappe made the cut in attack alongside fellow countryman Karim Benzema, who also won the Ballon d'Or, with 2022 World Cup hero Lionel Messi completing the set.

Man United send Ronaldo message

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Man United took some time out to send Ronaldo a farewell message, before their clash with Burnley on Wednesday night.

The message came exactly one month after the superstar's contract with the club was terminated by mutual agreement.

The experienced forward made more than 400 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 145 goals across competitions.
