  • Antonio Conte is unwilling to commit to a new Tottenham Hotspur contract
  • The Italian is bidding his time until Daniel Levy is in line with his ambitions with the club
  • Spurs have reportedly offered him a new and improved contract, which he is yet to sign

Tottenham will have to prove their intentions with Antonio Conte for the Italian to commit to a new deal at the North London club.

Spurs have reportedly offered Conte a £1million-a-year pay rise, but the former Chelsea and Juventus tactician is in no rush to put pen to paper.

Talks have been taking place during the World Cup to extend Conte’s deal, but nothing has been finalized.

It is no surprise Spurs are struggling to convince the serial winner to sign a new deal.

Conte has a reputation of exerting pressure on the chiefs of a club he manages so they are in line with nearly all his demands.

As reported on Daily Mail, he walked out of both Juventus and Inter Milan after the both clubs failed to show a commitment to improve.

The manager’s wife and children are still in Italy, which leaves a slight crack open on a possible return to the country if Tottenham fail to agree on a new deal.

Tottenham are currently gearing up for the return of competitive football and will face French side Nice in a friendly on Wednesday, December 21.

Where are Spurs in the Premier League?

Spurs are currently embroiled in a battle for the top four, and prior to the World Cup break, they sat in fourth place with 29 points, three ahead of Manchester United in fifth.

Their first assignment once Premier League football resumes will be against Brentford on Monday, December 26, and this will be followed by a tricky fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday, January 1.

Chelsea with another injury scare

Elsewhere, Chelsea experienced an injury scare after Wesley Fofana came off on Tuesday during a friendly against Brentford.

The 22-year-old only recently came back from an injury setback ahead of the resumption of the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Chelsea ran out 5-1 winners on the night as Kai Havertz netted a hat trick but the major blooper in an otherwise flawless game was Fofana’s scare.
