Why Benzema failed to join France

A rift has been reported between Karim Benzema and France Head Coach Didier Deschamps even as the defending champions prepare to face Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final.

Benzema was part of Deschamps' final squad to Qatar but had to return to Madrid after picking up a thigh injury. He had since recovered and could have been eligible to play on Sunday, December 18th. Karim

GFF now reports that Benzema was unhappy with how he was treated when he got that injury. The Real Madrid captain reportedly wanted to hang around in Qatar and given a chance to recover to have a shot at playing but Deschamps sent him home.

Benzema's international career

Benzema made his senior France debut against Austria in an international friendly in March 2007.

The former Lyon forward's international career saw him not play for his country for five years after being implicated in a blackmailing scandal.

He earned 97 caps and is fifth on France’s all-time goal scorer’s list with 37 goals.

Benzema sends France message

Sports Brief earlier reported that Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has encouraged his France teammates to go for the ultimate ahead of the final of the World Cup against Argentina.

Benzema had the chance to join the team in Doha but decided to stay away after recovering from injury late in the tournament.

Despite his absence, the Ballon d'Or winner will get a winners medal should Les Blues end up champions of the world.
