“Argentina deserved to win and they won for two reasons: because they have good players and the best player [Messi],” he told Diario as quoted by MadridXtra.

According to Managing Madrid, Ancelotti - who has been linked to the Brazil coaching job - will now turn his attention to helping Real Madrid defend their La Liga and UEFA Champions League trophies when club football resumes.

Argentina win World Cup

South American giants Argentina defeated France 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out to win the Mundial for the third time on Sunday.

Captain Messi scored twice and France striker Kylian Mbappe produced a hat-trick, as a thrilling 2022 World Cup final finished 3-3 after extra time at the Lusail Stadium.

In an extraordinary night of high drama, Argentinian substitute Gonzalo Montiel stroked home the winning spot kick to seal an agonising shootout loss for the defending champions.

Messi reacts after 'completing football'

Sports Brief earlier reported that Messi finally got his hands on the Jules Rimet trophy, after Argentina beat France in an epic final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Messi said his dream was fulfilled as he lifted the trophy, which is the crowning achievement of his illustrious career.

The veteran striker and his nation had to survive a Kylian Mbappe masterclass, as the young Frenchman scored a hat-trick late in the game to stun the South American football titans.
