  • Chelsea are short of striking options after Armando Broja’s latest injury setback
  • It was believed the Blues would pursue RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku
  • Latest reports now suggest the club might have other names on their target list

Chelsea fans may have to wait a little longer to see Christopher Nkunku in a Blues shirt, as the club is reportedly not keen on signing the injured RB Leipzig forward.

Graham Potter’s side is currently extremely short of striking options, and the latest injury to Armando Broja does little to help their cause with the Premier League on the horizon.

Broja suffered a knee injury during a friendly against Aston Villa and was ruled out for the rest of the season, leaving the Stamford Bridge landlords extremely short of attacking options.

At the moment, Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains the only viable striker for Chelsea, begging the need to sign another forward in the January transfer window.

According to Football insider Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are currently not keen on signing Nkunku, despite initial interest.

The France international has been a top performer for Leipzig in recent times, but his current injury might leave Chelsea with a huge decision to make in January.

“Chelsea will actively work to find a new striker after the Armando Broja injury,” Fabrizio said as quoted by CaughtOffside.

It was stated Nkunku was expected to instead join the Londoners in the summer, so they would instead look at other options in the meantime.

“Now it’s still early to say who are the serious candidates. Chelsea will explore many options, but the idea is to sign a new striker in January to replace Broja.”

Despite the signings of Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling in the summer, Chelsea have been short of goals, having scored just 17 times prior to the World Cup break.

Nkunku will be summer signing

As far as the Nkunku deal is concerned, Chelsea are still keen on his signature, but just not in the January window.

Instead, a deal is set to be agreed on for the summer, and the Leipzig star will likely to be in the blue jersey at the start of the 2023/24 season.

Liverpool sign pre-agreement with Fernandez

In other transfer news, Sports Brief reported on Liverpool being interested in Argentine star Enzo Fernandez.

Since making his way to Estadio da Luz in June, Enzo has made a name for himself for both club and country.

Real Madrid and Manchester United are among those interested in Enzo, but Liverpool are said to have the upper hand.
