African leaders were gathered in Washington D.C this week to attend the three-day U.S.-Africa Leaders' Summit.

For the first time since 2014, the African Union, including 45 African national leaders, and delegations from 49 countries are participating in the three-day event, per Reuters.

Biden joked that he didn't have much time to give a speech since there was a semi-final game coming up, according to NDTV.

"I know you're saying to yourselves, make it short Biden, there's a semi-final game coming up. I get it,"

Biden's message to Morocco

The 46th US President took to Twitter to send a message to the Atlas Lions for their historic runs and brave display against France.

"It was a great honor to watch today’s World Cup match alongside Prime Minister Akhannouch of Morocco. No matter who you’re rooting for, it was remarkable to watch how much this team has been able to achieve."

United States were eliminated from the tournament by the Netherlands in the Round of 16, suffering a 3-1 defeat.

Goals in either half earned reigning champions France a 2-0 victory. The resilient north Africans provided tough resistance. Their efforts, however, didn't come to fruition as their historic run at the tournament ended, per Eurosport.

They play Croatia on Saturday to determine who finishes third before the French take on Argentina in what promises to be a nail-biter in the final.

France ends Morocco's dream

Sports Brief earlier reported on France ending Morocco's dream at the 2022 World Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 win.

But Morocco, the first African and Arab team ever to reach the last four at a World Cup, fought on despite losing key players to injury

It will be France's fourth World Cup final in seven editions and they are hoping to become the first team since Brazil 60 years ago to retain the trophy when they take on Argentina on Sunday.
