Aston Villa and Argentina first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has warned compatriot Lisandro Martinez ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina have been touted as possible winners of the tournament, with Lionel Messi expected to lead his country to glory at the tournament since Diego Maradona's Argentina lifted the title in 1986.

Emiliano Martínez burst onto the scene with his country during the 2021 Copa America, where he, alongside Messi, played an influential role in leading their country to their first continental title in 28 years, according to the BBC.

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez was unlucky to miss out on the team that won Copa America. Still, his impressive campaign with Manchester United should see him become a regular for Lionel Scalonio's side.

Emi Martinez warns Martinez

As the team makes final preparations ahead of their opening match at the World Cup, the Aston Villa goalkeeper jokes with the defender, saying he should 'behave'. Emi posted an Instagram story with him showing a red card to Lisandro.

When United and Villa met a few weeks ago, the former Ajax defender was beaten by Leon Bailey, who scored the first goal. Emi Martinez's Villa had the last laugh as United licked their wounds, according to Eurosport.

The two will most likely form the defensive unit for Argentina against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, 22nd November.

Lisandro has so far proven to be a disciplined operator despite some fans claiming he should've seen red for elbowing Bailey.

Argentina's tournament to lose?

Sports Brief earlier analysed Group C consisting of Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.

Lisandro Martinez is expected to start at the back alongside Cristian Romero, with Emi as the goalkeeper.

Argentina's steady improvement under Lionel Scaloni has projected hope that Qatar 2022 might be Lionel Messi's year.
