  • Cristiano Ronaldo missed the Nigeria friendly due to stomach upset, but Portugal still thrashed the Africans
  • It ended 4-0 for the World Cup-bound Selecao as they make final preparation before heading to Qatar
  • CR7 stated that the team showed full personality and a clear display of talent ahead of the global showpiece

As Portugal head to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, team captain Cristiano Ronaldo has applauded their 4-0 win over Nigeria in an international friendly.

Two first half goals by Bruno Fernandes and a goal each in the second half by Goncalo Ramos and Joao Mario condemned the West Africans to an embarrassing defeat.

Ronaldo missed the encounter as coach Fernando Santos confirmed that the embattled Manchester United striker suffered a stomach bug and was left out of the team's World Cup warm-up friendly.

After the game, Ronaldo wrote via Sportskeeda:

“Great test of strength yesterday (Thursday) at Alvalade, with our boys showing their full personality. Clear display of talent and ability, one more reason to carry with us all the World's dreams! Wherever, Portugal, always!”

CR7 shares thoughts on Lionel Messi

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has finally revealed what he thinks of his long-time arch-nemesis, Lionel Messi. The two players have dominated headlines for the last 16 years, winning every available trophy to them except the World Cup.

They are arguably the greatest players to ever play football and their fans are often involved in divisive debates on who's better.

Messi has won seven Ballon d'Or compared to Ronaldo's five, but Ronaldo has the edge of gracing different leagues and shining in different competitions. He has been at Manchester United twice, at Real Madrid and Juventus.

Elanga responds to Ronaldo’s comments

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United star Anthony Elanga has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's comments about young players in today's game.

Ronaldo claimed that this era's footballing youngsters did not possess the same hunger and desire as he did when he was young.

Ronaldo said that young footballers these days are distracted by technology, and lack the same focus and hunger as he did, using his own 12-year-old son to draw comparison.
