Nigerian Player in Super Eagles Jersey Collapses, Dies on Lekki Pitch As Video Emerges

  • Last week Friday, a Nigerian player known as Kingsley slumped and died in Lagos while playing football
  • Kingsley was playing evening football with other Nigerian players at a pitch in Lekki before he collapsed
  • Efforts by his teammates to revive him on the pitch were futile as the 31-year-old was later confirmed dead at the hospital

A Nigerian footballer identified as Kingsley collapsed and died while playing at the Green Field Football Ground in the Lekki area of Lagos, leaving families, friends and fans into mourning.

The 31-year-old, who was not playing for any professional football team in Nigeria, died at about 6.30pm on Friday, 30 September.

According to the video spotted on social media, Kingsley appeared totally exhausted and fell to the ground, with his playing teammates not immediately noticing his fall.

When they eventually noticed something was wrong, they started pouring water on the head and face of Kingsley before rushing him to the hospital.

Which hospital was he taken to?

According to the reports on Daily Post and Daily Trust, Kingsley was rushed to Ever Care Hospital in Lekki where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The reports added that the corpse of Kingsley is currently at a public morgue for autopsy, as investigations by police into his death have begun.

Ndidi starts for Leicester 6 days after pulling out of Nigerian squad due to injury

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Wilfred Ndidi on Monday night, 3 October, returned to action for Leicester City for their Premier League game against Nottingham Forest, which they won convincingly.

This was six days after the 25-year-old pulled out of the international friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Algeria national team in Oran.

Going into the friendly encounter, Ndidi was one of the big Nigerian players fans were expecting to be on the pitch, but he had to pull out due to injury.

His pulling out of the Super Eagles' game against Algeria caused some Nigerian journalists to claim controversy, further alleging the Leicester City player had faked the injury.
