Youcef Atal Scores Wonder Goal As Algeria Beat Super Eagles in Big Friendly Battle

Algeria on Tuesday night, 27 September continued their dominance in football over the Super Eagles by coming back from a goal down to beat Nigeria 2-1 in international friendly game.

Going into this encounter, Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro promised that his wards have trained hard for the tie stressing that they would beat the Desert Foxes.

However, things did not go as expected for the Super Eagles as the Algerian players came out with more energy in the second half to win the tie.

Super Eagles started the encounter impressively and they waited until the 9th minute before netting the opener through Terem Moffi.

When did Algeria national team restore parity?

Riyad Mahrez restored parity for the Algerian national team via a penalty in the 41st minute and the first half ended 1-1 between these two giants.

And in the second half, Algeria came out more aggressive and they scored their second goal in the 61st minute through Youcef Atal who fired a 30 yard shot.

Algeria pressed more to score another goal, but they were unable to as the encounter ended 2-1.

Super Eagles legend Mikel Obi announces retirement from football after 20 years

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi announced his retirement from football after 20 years in which the Nigerian will be remembered as one of the best African midfielders ever.

The Chelsea legend took to his official Instagram page on Tuesday afternoon, 27 September, to make the announcement with the Nigerian thanking all the people who supported his football career.

Obi Mikel is retiring as a hero at the age of 35 with laurels won for both clubs and country as it will be recalled that he was among the Super Eagles players who won the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Mikel Obi played 91 games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria netting six goals before he quit international football in 2019.
