  • Samuel Umtiti recently secured a loan move to Serie A newcomers Leece, ending his miserable spell at Barcelona
  • The move offers Umtiti a chance to get more first team football, having been frozen out of Xavi’s squad
  • A video has now emerged showing the France international reduced to tears after the wonderful reception he got at Leece

Samuel Umtiti could not help but shed a tear or two as he was unveiled at Serie A club Leece as their new loanee.

It has been a tough spell for Umtiti at Barcelona since 2018 as the former Lyon man has found himself dropping lower in the Barcelona pecking order.

Despite being a peripheral figure in France’s World Cup winning team, Umtiti somehow fell out of favor in the national team as well, and this was largely because of his recurring injuries.

The 28-year-old has however been offered a chance to perhaps rediscover his best football once again after moving to the Serie A.

Umtiti’s loan move is a win-win for both Barca and Leece as the Catalan giants will finally be able to register Jules Kounde, while Leece are getting a top defender without having to necessarily cover his wages, according to Goal.

A video of Umtiti in a first interview in Italy has since emerged and the Frenchman can clearly be seen struggling to hold back his emotions as he is greeted by fans.

The uphill task at Leece

While Umtiti now has the chance to play regular football, he still has a major challenge on his hands; to help keep Leece in Italian top flight.

Having gained promotion, the club is yet to register a point in their opening two games, losing to Inter Milan and Sassuolo.
