  • The Magpies are now set to break their record transfer fee for the Swedish striker, who was on target in Sociedad's last league game against Barcelona
  • Isak adds to Newcastle's attacking options as Eddie Howe aims to build on a bright start to the season - winning twice and drawing against Premier League champions Man City

Mega-rich Newcastle United are ready to splurge the cash on Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak.

The two clubs are close to agreeing on a fee in the region of £60 million - which would be a club-record transfer for Newcastle and a record sale for Sociedad should the deal suffice, reports Sky Sports.

Following the Saudi-led takeover of the Tyneside club, Newcastle were expected to open a transfer war chest in the summer, however, the Magpies have been relatively quiet with low-profile acquisitions of Matt Target, Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Charlie Mcarthur.

Isak has been at Real Sociedad since the summer of 2019 when he arrived from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and has scored 44 goals in 132 appearances.

The Sweden international was on target for Sociedad in their 4-1 La Liga defeat to Barcelona on Sunday.

He has previously courted the interest of Premier League sides Arsenal and Everton but is attracted by the new project at Newcastle.

Eddie Howe has been keen to add another forward throughout the summer especially following the hamstring injury to lead striker Callum Wilson.

Newcastle make enquiry of highly-rated winger Kamaldeen Sulemana

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Newcastle United are interested in Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana and could sign the talented forward in the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old has emerged as an alternative for Leeds United's Jack Harrison after the Toons were put off by the club's asking price of £35million.

According to the Daily Mail, the English Premier League outfit have made enquiries over the availability of the £30 million rated Ghana international.
