European champions Real Madrid have targeted former Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy as their future manager.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central claims the 46-year-old is in pole position to replace Carlo Ancelotti as he is one of several options in their crosshairs.

Los Blancos have already lined up managers to succeed the Italian gaffer, with several managers emerging on their radar.

The reports further state that several former Real Madrid players, including Alvaro Arbeloa, Raul Gonzalez, Xabi Alonso, and Guti, also feature on their wishlist.

With Ancelotti announcing that he will retire when his time at Real Madrid is brought to an end, Florentino Perez is closely monitoring the progress of van Nistelrooy, who is currently managing PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch legend has started the 2022/23 on a bright note in the Eredevisie as he is yet to taste defeat in seven games so far.

He entered into football management shortly after he hung up his boot and had two spells as an assistant head coach for the Netherlands. He also served as the manager for PSV's U-19 and reserve teams.

van Nistelrooy was appointed as manager of PSV's senior team in March 2022 following the departure of Roger Schmidt. He signed a three-year contract with PSV, with the deal taking effect in the 2022-23 campaign.

Meanwhile, Nistelrooy has clinched his first major honours as head coach of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

Van Nistelrooy, 46, guided PSV to a momentous victory over eternal nemesis Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch Super Cup (Johann Cruyff Shield) on Saturday, July 30.

Nistelrooy's charges defeated Ajax 5-3 in an enthralling fixture to grab the first silverware of the season.
