Tragedy Hit Football Again As Referee Dies Following an Attack From Players and Fans After Issuing a Red Card

The Salvadoran Football Federation has called for the authorities to find those responsible for the death of a match official after a center referee lost his life following an attack from fans and players.

Jose Arnoldo Amaya had passed away last weekend after he was attacked for issuing a player a red card in an amateur league game which prompted an outrageous scene of violence.

The 63-year-old suffered from internal bleeding as a result of the attack as doctors failed in their attempt to prevent his injuries from getting worse The Sun reports.

The center referee who had over 20 years of experience as a match official was later confirmed to have died following the attack.

The death of center referee Amaya promoted the Salvadoran Football Federation President, Hugo Carillo to go live on national television to condemn the atrocious act.

Angry Canada players bang on referee's door after defeat

Meanwhile, some Canadian players furiously banged and kicked the door of the match officials’ dressing room after a fiery 2-1 defeat to Honduras on Monday, June 13 The Mirror reports.

The Canadian players were furious with the officials over their performance after they ended their 2-1 to Honduras with ten players following a red card issued to Alistair Johnson in stoppage time.

It is the latest incident in what has been a period of uncertainty and hostility for the Canadian national team as protests against its own governing body, Canada Soccer, have cast a dark shadow over their World Cup preparations.

Ghanaian referee slapped with heavy suspension

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Referee Kenny Padi who handled the second installment of Hearts and Kotoko game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, has been suspended for the rest of the season.

The center referee was slapped with the heavy punishment on the back of a contentious penalty he awarded to Asante Kotoko which resulted in the only goal of the Super Clash on April 10.

The punishment means Kenny Padi will not be eligible to officiate any Ghana Football Association-organized match for the remainder of the season.
