David de Gea and Trent Alexander-Arnold nearly came to blows on Tuesday night, April 19, during a tense Liverpool vs Man United clash staged at Anfield.

The duo had to be separated from each other with a fiery altercation between them nearly escalating.

According to The Sun, everything went south after Manchester United keeper De Gea took exception to Alexander-Arnold's actions shortly after Luis Diaz's opener.

After setting up Diaz for the goal, Alexander-Arnold sprinted away in celebration before booting the ball in the direction of De Gea.

David de Gea confronts Alexander-Arnold

The nearly slammed De Gea in the face, with the Spaniard shot-stopper having to take an evasive action to avoid being hit.

An angry De Gea responded by grabbing Alexander-Arnold's shirt sparking an angry confrontation.

In response, the England right-back shoved the United keeper as the duo exchanged words.

It took the intervention of Jordan Henderson to diffuse the situation, with the Liverpool skipper quickly hauling his teammate away.

Referee Martin Atkinson later stepped in but did not book any of the players.

Meanwhile, Liverpool went on to secure a 4-0 thrilling win over their archrivals to increase their chances of winning the Premier League title.

Sports Brief reported Mohamed Salah found the back of the net twice, with Sadio Mane also getting his name on the scoresheet as the Reds condemned United to a comprehensive defeat.

Liverpool's win sent them top of the standings momentarily with 76 points, two ahead of second-placed Man City who have a match to play.
