- The Super Eagles striker was on the score sheet in Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari in the Serie A
- He, however, suffered injury in the second half of the tie and was eventually substituted
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen grabbed his eight goal of the season following Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari in the Serie A on Sunday, May 2 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The former Lille of France striker who struggled at the start of the season is beginning to make impact for his side after he was handed his 12th start in the Italian topflight.
He seized the opportunity to get a goal before he was forced out of the tie after he was injured in the second half.
Napoli went into the game coming from four-game unbeaten run and they dominated the tie in the early exchanges going ahead as early as the 13th minute.
Lorenzo Insigne had made a sensational move beating his markers and then squared the ball to Osimhen who grabbed the opening goal brilliantly.
The 22-year-old almost made it two nil in the 26th minute after an intelligent move from Hirving Lozano before firing a shot; but was ruled out for offside.
The visitors almost equalised late in the first half, but Gabriele Zappa saw his effort rattle the woodwork.
Cagliari eventually made a last gasp to put the scoreline level through Nahitan Nandez to ensure they shared the points with Napoli.
Osimhen will be expected to be examined to determine the state of his injury and it is uncertain if he will feature when the Parthenopeans take on Spezia in their next league game on May 8.
His profile is currently on the rise as he is gradually returning to goalscoring form for Napoli since he returned from injury.
Osimhen was recently spotted in a photo on his Twitter handle with an expensive ice-gold chain wrapped around his neck.
The Nigerian international still showed the love he has for his late parents as used a photo of them as pendants dangling at the end of the chain.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Paul Onuachu scored his 30th league goal of the season in Genk's narrow 3-2 win over Royal Antwerp in the Jupiler League Championship group.
The four top teams in the Belgian topflight league with play against each other and whoever tops the group will be declared winner of the Belgian league.
The Super Eagles forward has never seemed to be slowing down as he helped his club grind out a win in the five-goal thriller.
