Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has disclosed that he wanted to sign Senegal forward Sadio Mané during his time with the English giants.
However, the Senegal winger ended up joining United's fiercest rivals Liverpool, and has gone on to win several titles with the Reds.
After the World Cup draw in Doha, the Netherlands were pitted against the African champions, host Qatar and Ecuador, and reacting to his opponents he stated Senegal were the toughest and has huge admiration for their star forward Sadio Mané.
"Senegal, the strongest opponent in the group? Yes, I agree. And Sadio Mané is a fantastic player. When I was the manager of Manchester United, I wanted him to be signed, but unfortunately, he joined our rival," he said as quoted by Joueurs Senegalais.
The Oranges will open their World Cup campaign with a clash against the newly crowned African champions.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup has been done and dusted and football fans can expect an action-packed tournament in Qatar.
In the pick of the groups, Germany and Spain were drawn together in Group E, a group that includes Japan and a yet to be decided team.
Three spots are yet to be filled in the tournament, as the last representative from Europe and two Inter-Confederation Playoffs need to be decided.
