France Based Defender Confirms Ghana Invite for World Cup Qualifier Against Nigeria

• The Ghana Football Association is yet to release the list for Ghana's crucial encounter with Nigeria later this week

Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace center-back, Alexander Djiku is heading to Ghana for the World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

The Black Stars defender confirmed his invite after posting on social media his next move after Strasbourg game against Lorient.

The 27-year-old produced a strong defensive display as Strasbourg kept a clean sheet on the road against Lorient in Ligue 1.

"Never without a fight. Next step Ghana," he posted on Twitter after the game.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to release the squad for the games against Nigeria later this week despite posting the plan ahead of the match on Friday.

The players are expected in Ghana on Monday before they travel to Kumasi on Tuesday to begin training.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku was outstanding in the French Ligue 1 after scoring a spectacular goal for RC Strasbourg in their 1-0 win over AS Monaco on Sunday.

The 27-year-old gave the home fans something to cheer for after scoring a bicycle-kick considered as one of the best goals of his career.

Djiku was already waiting in the 18-yard box when France attacker, Kevin Gameiro, flicked the ball with his head which came in the direction of the Black Stars whose improvised overhead kick found the back of the net.

The Black Stars of Ghana have been dealt a huge blow after forward Jordan Ayew is reported to have tested positive of COVID-19 ahead of the game against Nigeria.

The Crystal Palace attacker will miss the first leg in Kumasi at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Friday, but should be available for the second leg in Abuja.

The striker missed Crystal Palace's FA Cup encounter against Everton on Sunday afternoon due to the setback.
