He signed a four-year contract with the club in June 2019. Later in the following season, on 5 September, he scored his first goal for Bristol City in an EFL Cup match against Exeter City. The star appeared consistently for the club in the 2020–21 season, playing fifty competitive games, netting five goals and seven assists.

On January deadline day of 2020, the forward joined League One side, Sunderland, on a sixth-month loan. He is currently a pivotal player at Bristol, having been moved into a central attacking position under Nigel Pearson after spending most of his career playing as a winger/wide forward.
