For the last three years, the facility has undergone a series of upgrades and transformations that saw its sitting capacity increase from 5,000 to 30,000.

The county has yet to embark on $30million phase 2 of the upgrades that will see the facility become a fully modern stadium with all the facilities that meet international standards.

Kakamega Homeboyz achievements

After paying homage in both the FKF Divisional league and the National Super League for two years, the team was promoted to the top tier league in Kenya in 2013.

Their stint at the top flight league was short-lived, for the team was relegated at the end of the 2013 season. However, their return to the Zonal league proved to be a blessing in disguise, for they ended up winning the league in 2014 and were promoted in the now infamous promotion scandal.

The team has never won the KPL title but were the runners up in the 2020/19 season, their highest achievement to date.

If it is anything to go by with the current performance in the 2021/22 season, the team is poised to win, for they are on top of the league table with a record of being unbeaten.
