Stellenbosch FC's history

The club was initially formed in August 2016, when the Premier Soccer League Executive Committee approved the application from the National First Division side, Vasco Da Gama. The Stellies played their first game against Mthatha Bucks on 28 August 2016, with Stanley Muishond scoring the first goal in Stellenbosch FC's history.

During the team's second season in 2017, the team recorded ten wins and ten losses in the thirty matches of the season. Consequently, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs, hence finishing eighth. Their degrading performances resulted in the team's purchase by the country's Academy of Sport.

Stellies' fame skyrocketed when they played their first PSL game against Moroka Swallows Football Club at their home stadium. Stellenbosch's management has since worked hard since they debuted in the football scene to ensure that the soccer club remains competitive by acquiring some of the best players in the country.

The club's Chief Executive Officer is Rob Benadie. He is an ex-player and chairman of Bellville City FC's amateur club. He is considered among Stellenbosch's legends. He once publicly stated the meaning of the team's name,
