The most pressing matter right now for him is the smooth running of the 2021 African Cup of Nations, as reported on TimesLIVE. Unfortunately for Motsepe, a stampede which resulted in the deaths of eight people and injuries to dozens more cast a pall over the tournament, as per IOL.

Amid this trying time for him, he received birthday messages by the bucketloads from appreciative admirers, including Mamelodi Sundowns, where he made his first foray into football.

Patrice Motsepe scored South African football's biggest win on and off the pitch in what felt like forever last year.

As reported on Sports Brief, Motsepe was elected the new president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), replacing predecessor Ahmad Ahmad.

Motsepe’s election was confirmed at the federation's general assembly in Rabat, Morocco. It was the first time a South African had been elected to the office since SAFA was accepted into CAF's assembly in 1992.
