  • The Italian-American motorsport engineer has named his dream F1 lineup

Formula 1 fans were taken aback when Haas Racing unexpectedly announced the departure of their longstanding Team Principal, Guenther Steiner.

The seasoned Italian-American motorsport engineer had held the reins as team principal for the American Formula 1 team between 2016 and 2024, following a stint as the managing director at the now-defunct F1 team Jaguar Racing.

The 58-year-old had endeared himself to fans in the paddock thanks to his lively interviews and distinctive choice of language.

However, despite his popularity, Steiner found himself ousted from his role. In the aftermath of his departure, he engaged in an interview with journalist David Croft, delving into various topics, from the reasons behind his dismissal at Haas to contemplating his future in the world of Formula 1.

During the interview, the former team principal also took a moment to share his reflections on some of his motorsport fantasies, including his envisioned dream pairing of Formula 1 drivers.

Steiner on his dream F1 pairing

When asked about his ideal driver pairing, Steiner, in his seemingly characteristic style, as reported by RBR Daily, humorously remarked:

"I'll pick Max [Verstappen] and Niki Lauda."

Emphasising his choice of Lauda, he explained:

"In his time, he was the man who could, you know, even if he was not the fastest, he could bring them results and he's good fun, by the way."

The 58-year-old's selection seemed to be well-received across the Formula 1 community, with many praising the hypothetical partnership of a 'hot-headed' Verstappen and the seemingly composed and highly efficient Lauda.

However, Steiner's pick is destined to remain a fantasy, as Lauda tragically passed away in 2019, two years before Verstappen secured the first of his three World Championships.

Verstappen speaks on his driving style

Sports Brief in a previous report stated Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen has spoken on his driving style.

The 26-year-old, who has become synonymous with dominating his teammates irrespective of whoever it is, was quizzed about his preferred style of driving.

The three-time Formula 1 champion, however, highlighted a few things he prefers to do and further touched on what he would desire in the new RB20 F1 car.
