Verstappen has already wrapped up the 2023 title, his third consecutive championship triumph, after winning 14 races to attain an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

However, as the Guardian reports, the Dutchman will start in sixth place after he was denied the pole position for the Sunday race after he exceeded limits in the second-last corner of qualifying.

The two-time defending champion in Austin will be unfazed about his start further back. His dominant Red Bull car has powered him to wins from way back in Belgium and Miami this season.

Can Hamilton close down Perez for P2?

Hamilton, who will start in P3, is still keen on chasing down Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez for a P2 overall finish.

US sprinter Richardson was at hand to award the podium winners with their certificates. Richardson had a fulfilling 2023 season, which culminated with her winning gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

The 23-year-old stunned five-time World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson to race to a world lead of 10.65 seconds from lane 9.

She then picked bronze in the 200m before anchoring Team USA to gold in the 4 by 100m relay race.

Verstappen hits out at Hamilton

Sports Brief also reported that the animosity between Hamilton and Max Verstappen, which stems from the 2021 Formula season, keeps growing following the Mercedes driver's recent comments on his Red Bull rival.

Hamilton had initially cast doubts over the achievements and records of the Dutch driver in an interview ahead of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Verstappen has now responded to the claim of the seven-time champion in the cheekiest of manners.
