SA20 Lungisani Ngidi Becomes the First Player Auctioned in Much Anticipated Cricket Tournament

  • The auction of which players will play for the various teams across the country was held in Cape Town
  • Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi became the first player to be held in the auction at the Cape Town International Convention Centre

The SA20 tournament is really happening.

The auctioning of the various players to the teams that will participate in the tournament is currently taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Over 300 cricketers will go under the hammer to play for one of the Joburg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals, Durban’s Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town.

According to SuperSport, the SA20 is set to start in January 2023 and will run during that window each year. South Africa’s new T20 league aims to become the second biggest T20 League in the world.

The league will give fans an unrivalled stadium experience and top-quality cricket entertainment during prime-time summer in South Africa. It aims to share South Africa’s rich cricket heritage and culture with the world.

The league will unearth the next generation of talent and provide a valuable investment into cricket development in the country.

Keshav Maharaj and Ayabonga Khaka were named the 2021/22 SA Men’s and SA Women’s Cricketer of the Year at Cricket South Africa’s virtual awards ceremony which was held on Sunday evening.

It was a memorable occasion for Maharaj and Khaka, who were also voted by their teammates as the SA Men and SA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year respectively.

In the men’s category, other winners included Kagiso Rabada, who was named the Test Player of the Year, Aiden Markram was named the T20 International Player of the Year, and Janneman Malan who was named the one-day international Player of the Year.
