  • Isaac 'Royal Storm' Dogboe is hoping to finish his upcoming July 23 bout with Joet Gonzalez in seven rounds
  • The fight is scheduled to take place on July 23 in Minnesota, USA, in a final eliminator to the World Boxing Organisation featherweight title
  • Dogboe is on a three-fight winning streak since losing two consecutive world championship bouts to Emanuel Navarrete in 2018 and 2019

Isaac Dogboe’s 2018 was definitely a roller-coaster ride. The Ghanaian boxer faced the first and only loss of his career till date against Emanuel Navarete.

He lost his WBO title to Emanuel Navarrete at the Hulu Theater in New York City's Madison Square Garden on 8th December 2018 via unanimous decision.

The pair fought a rematch five months later, and Dogboe lost once again, this time by twelfth-round technical knockout.

Dogboe managed to bounce back by defeating Mexican American Chris Avalos on July 2020, after stopping him in the final round of their featherweight bout at the MGM Grand.

Now, the former WBO junior featherweight champion has his eyes set on American boxer Joet Gonzalez.

Dogboe is confident that he would knock out Gonzalez within seven rounds of their fight.

“I was in a position to challenge for the title but it didn’t happen so I decided to get the mandatory shot by fighting Joet Gonzalez,” Dogboe told the Graphic Sports.
“I will see if I can knock him out in seven rounds or win convincingly because the most important thing is to win.
“It must not always be about the knockout and I’m now enjoying my boxing.”

The winner of the bout between Dogboe and Gonzalez could face Navarrete, holder of the WBO featherweight belt.

The Mexican two-division champion is expected to move up to the super featherweight division to challenge unified WBC and WBO title holder, Shakur Stevenson — a move which could see the winner of the Dogboe v Gonzalez bout fight for a vacant title.
