Faith Kipyegon has been awarded two monthly awards following another historic run at the Monaco Diamond League on July 21.

Kipyegon shattered the one-mile record after she clocked 4.07.64 to lower Sifan Hassan's record of 4.12.33 set in 2019.

It was the third new world record Kipyegon was setting in two months. She started off with her favourite 1500 metres at the Florence Diamond League by using 3:49.11 before lowering the 5000 metres world record to 14:05.20 at the Paris Diamond League.

Her latest fete in Monaco was voted the World Athletics Moment of the Month after receiving the most retweets on Twitter.

The 29-year-old fended off competition from World 200m champion Noah Lyles who set a new world lead in an insane race at the London Diamond League. World record holder in shotput Ryan Crouser was also nominated for his 23.07m throw at the same event.

Other nominees included Shericka Jackson's world-leading time in the 100 metres of 10.65 seconds and Femke Bol's 51.45 seconds run in the 400m hurdles - the third fastest time ever- at the London Diamond League.

Kipyegon wins SJAK award

Apart from the World Athletics award, Kipyegon was also feted with the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya(SJAK) Athlete of the Month award for the second month running.

She beat, among others, the fastest man in Africa, Ferdinand Omanyala, former women's World U 20 Steeplechase champion Jackline Chepkoech and Kenya Moran's duo Eugene Adera and Derick Ogechi.

The SJAK award is often given out in collaboration with electronics company LG. Kipyegon walked away with a 55-inch LG NanoCell Television.

She is currently preparing to double up in both the 1500 metres and 5000 metres at the World Athletics Championships this month.

Team Kenya's squad to Budapest

Ferdinand Omanyala and Faith Kipyegon will lead Team Kenya to the World Athletics Championships after securing their spots at the two-day national trials at Nyayo National Stadium on July 8 and 9.

Double world record holder Kipyegon punched her ticket in the 5,000 metres on Friday afternoon with a dominant victory as she aims to complete a double swoop in Budapest next month.

Kipyegon did not participate in the 1500m trials as she already had a wild card by virtue of being the defending world champion. She will now be seeking to become a triple world champion over the distance.
