In the past decade, Manchester United have faced frequent defeats, often experiencing humiliating losses.

They pale in comparison to the formidable force under Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure, and Erik ten Hag seems poised to continue the trend of managerial struggles.

Even with world-class managers like Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and Erik ten Hag, United's humiliating defeats continue to mount.

Each permanent United manager following Ferguson has endured humiliating defeats. From cup exits to European losses, the list of embarrassing moments since 2013 is extensive.

Sports Brief takes a look at the most embarrassing ones since Ferguson's retirement.

Top humiliating Man United losses post-Ferguson

Manchester United 0-5 Liverpool

In October 2021, the Merseyside Reds handed Manchester United their heaviest-ever home defeat in their fixture, with a resounding 5-0 win, per Skysports.

Mohamed Salah's hat-trick sealed the victory, making him the first Liverpool player to achieve this at Old Trafford since 1936 and the all-time leading scorer in this historic rivalry.

Manchester United 1-6 Tottenham

This entry in the list occurred during lockdown, sparing United fans the agony of witnessing their team's collapse in person. In a strange turn of events, both Manchester United and Liverpool suffered heavy defeats on the same day.

United conceded six goals at home to a Tottenham team led by Jose Mourinho, who relished his return to Old Trafford.

This defeat marked United's biggest since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Despite Bruno Fernandes giving them an early lead, Spurs quickly turned the tide and surged ahead within minutes

Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United

Few could have predicted Manchester United's capitulation at Anfield less than a decade after their dominant Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Liverpool led 1-0 at halftime. However, in the second half, United wilted under Anfield's pressure, allowing Liverpool to ruthlessly exploit their vulnerability.

Goals from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah, each with braces, alongside Roberto Firmino's goal, sealed United's worst-ever defeat in the 128-year-old fixture.

Chelsea 4-0 Manchester United

Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea as Manchester United manager in October 2016 was bitter.

Nearly a year after his sacking from Chelsea, the stark contrast between his struggling team and Antonio Conte's thriving side was evident.

Chelsea's dominant 4-0 win, highlighted by Pedro's early goal, led Mourinho to accuse Conte of attempting to humiliate him with excessive celebrations. This sparked a feud, and Chelsea fans taunted Mourinho with chants of "You're not special anymore."

Brighton 4-0 Manchester United

Ralf Rangnick's interim stint as Manchester United manager aimed to stabilize the team following a rocky start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, things took a downturn, with United finishing the season in even worse form, including a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, marking their fifth consecutive away loss.

This loss also confirmed mathematically that United would not qualify for the Champions League, leading Rangnick to bluntly state that the team was "just not good enough."

Everton 4-0 Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure began positively, but once he was appointed permanently, things took a downturn. Manchester United ended the 2018/19 season without a win in their last five matches, suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

Supporters resorted to ironic cheers for simple passes, signaling the end of the honeymoon period. Solskjaer apologised to the fans, acknowledging their loyalty despite the team's poor performance.

Watford 4-1 Manchester United

Despite enduring several embarrassing defeats, Solskjaer completed two full seasons as Manchester United manager before his tenure unravelled in the first half of the 2021/22 campaign.

A humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford, a team destined for relegation, marked the end of his reign, leading to his sacking the following day.

Goalkeeper David de Gea bleakly labelled the match as "nightmare after nightmare after nightmare," encapsulating United's darkest moments since Ferguson's retirement. Despite saving a first-half penalty, de Gea couldn't prevent United from collapsing at Vicarage Road.

Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

Erik ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford amid high hopes, but optimism quickly faded as Manchester United suffered a humbling defeat at home to Brighton on the opening day of the season.

Matters worsened in their second match away at Brentford, where they found themselves trailing 4-0 after just 35 minutes as the Bees carved through Ten Hag's disorganized team.

MK Dons 4-0 Manchester United

Louis van Gaal faced disappointment early in his Manchester United tenure, failing to win his first two matches. Their League Cup second-round clash with MK Dons in 2014 was anticipated as a chance for redemption, but it turned into a nightmare.

The Dons convincingly defeated a young United side 4-0, marking a historic night for the club. Remarkably, MK Dons had assembled their team with less than £500,000, contrasting sharply with the arrival of Angel Di Maria at Old Trafford, who earned £560,000 every two weeks.

Crystal Palace 4-0 Manchester United

Ten Hag's persistent optimism faced a harsh reality during a forgettable night at Selhurst Park in May 2024.

Manchester United, fielding their 14th different Premier League centre-back pairing of the season, was dismantled by a resurgent Crystal Palace side.

Michael Olise capitalised on United's defensive frailty, scoring a brace in Palace's commanding 4-0 victory, the BBC reported.

Carragher sends message to Casemiro

Sports Brief also reported on Jamie Carragher sending a message to Casemiro to assess his career at the top level after a disasterclass against Crystal Palace.

The English pundit echoed suggestions from the fans that the legendary midfielder should rather leave Europe for the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer.
