Chelsea recorded one of their worst defeats in Premier League history as Arsenal put five unanswered goals past them at the Emirates Stadium on April 23.

It was another low for Mauricio Pochettino, whose debut season in West London hasn't gone according to plan as he battles to convince the owners he is the right person for the job.

A brace each from Kai Havertz and Ben White, plus an early Leandro Trossard goal, widened the Gunners' lead at the top of the table before their fellow title rivals played.

Chelsea attempted to get back into the game after the Trossard goal, but Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez failed to capitalise on the half-chances they had created.

The hosts returned after the break rejuvenated and scored four goals in 18 minutes to effectively put the game beyond the Blues' reach.

What did Chelsea fans do at the Emirates?

With their players failing to put up a fight on the pitch, the travelling Blues faithful resorted to 'unorthodox' tactics by tormenting Arsenal for their lack of Champions League silverware.

The fans carried inflatable trophies at the Emirates to remind the hosts that Chelsea remains the only club in London to have won the trophy.

Arsenal's and Chelsea's records in Champions League compared

Arsenal's latest attempt ended last week when they crashed out at the quarter-final stage at the hands of Bayern Munich. Their best-ever finish remains in 2006 when they reached the final but lost to Barcelona.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have won the competition on two different occasions. The latest came in 2021 when they beat Manchester City. They won their maiden title in 2012 when they defied all odds to beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Pochettino's side won't have the opportunity to add to their cabinet next season as it is highly unlikely they will finish in the top-four places.

Silva's wife posts 'coded' message after Chelsea defeat

Sports Brief has also reported that Thiago Silva's wife left a cryptic message after Chelsea were beaten 5-0 by Arsenal on Tuesday evening.

It wasn't the first time the veteran defender's spouse had expressed her frustrations on social media about the club's dwindling fortunes of late.

Silva was surprisingly dropped to the bench despite forming a reliable partnership with Trevoh Chalobah in recent games for the Blues.
