Nicolas Jackson was the luckiest man alive as the Chelsea forward escaped being given a red card in the ninth minute of Chelsea’s humiliating loss against rivals Arsenal on Tuesday, April 23.

Fans were outraged at the Emirates stadium after the struggling Blues forward was left unpunished by match officials after a reckless challenge on Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

According to The Standard, Jackson appeared to have deliberately caught Tomiyasu on the ankle just nine minutes into Tuesday's London derby, leaving the Gunners defender in agony on the floor.

Despite the incriminating footage, the Video Assistant Referee reviewed the event and determined that the foul did not merit a red card for the struggling Chelsea frontman.

Jackson has faced heavy criticism since his summer move to Stamford Bridge from Villareal as many fans believe the Senegalese cannot be trusted to lead the Blues attack next season.

Jackson’s pardon baffles Rio Ferdinand

Meanwhile, former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, was in disbelief after referee Simon Hooper failed to send off Jackson for his reckless challenge on Tomiyasu in the London Derby, TBR Football reports.

Ferdinand agreed Jackson's challenge was 'reckless' during his half-time coverage of the Premier League game.

'I couldn't believe that challenge wasn't even looked at by VAR. We've seen so many instances this season as bad, if not even as bad as this. And you think to yourself, wow, they've been sent off.
'If they looked at this, they definitely would have said this was a reckless challenge. Wow. I would love them to come and explain that to me please.' Ferdinand told TNT Sports.

Jackson, who has scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season, has been under scrutiny for his poor decisions in front of goal from the Blues supporters.

Jackson produces unbelievable miss

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Jackson's goal-scoring woes persisted as Chelsea endured a humiliating five-nil defeat against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Senegalese striker, who has faced heavy criticism all season for his lack of efficiency in front of goal, failed to redeem himself as he squandered a clear-cut opportunity.

Despite having scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, Jackson missed a couple of chances to add to his tally and silence his detractors.
