Nigeria's highest-ranked table tennis player, Aruna Quadri, has won his country's second medal at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Africa's highest-ranked table tennis player faced Egypt's Omar Assar in the final of the men's singles event on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old lost the final to the Egyptian 4-3 but ended up on the podium with a silver medal.

It was an exciting final, with both players bringing their A-game and thrilling the fans present at the arena.

Assar won the first set with a score of 11-8, while Quadri returned the favour with two sets won, claiming the second and third with a scoreline of 11-2 and 11-2, according to a report by Vanguard.

The Egyptian won the fourth set 11-7, while the Nigerian won the fifth 11-9 to take the tie to 3-2 in favour of Quadri.

Assar took the game beyond his favourite rival as he claimed the last two sets 11-9 and 11-0 to claim the gold medal.

Nigerian female table tennis player, Offiong Edem, won the West African nation's first medal in the competition when she clinched the bronze medal in the women's singles event on Tuesday.

African Games: football competition preview

Sports Brief earlier reported that the African Games men's football was modified to include nine U20 teams, divided into two groups: one with four teams and the other with five.

In Group A, the hosts will compete against Gambia, Benin, and Congo, while Group B features the top contenders, Nigeria, against South Sudan, Senegal, Uganda, and Tunisia.

The West African nation's matches are all scheduled to start from 20:00 local time, with all of the Group B matches set to take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
