Orlando Pirates takes allegations of betting among its players very seriously.
The club made that point clear as they released a statement over a video circulating on social media.
In the video, which was recorded by one of the squad, two of the club’s players can be seen discussing betting and talking about placing a bet on an English Premier League game.
According to FIFA’s rules regarding the practice, players are prohibited from participating in betting, gambling, lotteries or similar events related to football matches.

International stars like Sandro Tonali and Ivan Toney have already been banned for betting offences.
The Soweto giants have since released a statement on their website regarding the matter, stating that the video captured a light-hearted moment between the players and that no bets were actually placed.
“As a Club, we are fully aware of the regulations regarding betting. Betting on any sport is strictly prohibited for any professional player.
"However, we have addressed the matter with the players involved, emphasising that even in jest, such discussions can have serious implications.”
The Buccaneers have also promised to launch an internal investigation into the matter to ensure no betting was conducted.
“Due to the seriousness of this matter, the club has instituted its own internal investigation to ensure that no player is involved in any form of sports betting as this would constitute a breach in the club handbook that all players are signatory to,” the statement read.
