- Novak Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz in four sets at the Australian Open quarter-finals
- Jannik Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets in their quarter-final matchup
- Djokovic and Sinner’s semi-final clash will be their first meeting in the Australian Open
Novak Djokovic moved to within two victories of another Australian Open title after recording a four-set win over Taylor Fritz on Tuesday.
The defending champion will look to grab that coveted spot in the finals when he takes on Jannik Sinner at Rod Laver Arena today.
Read on below for an in-depth breakdown of this semis matchup.
Djokovic's road to the semi-finals
Djokovic stormed to his 11th Australian Open semi-final with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Fritz on Tuesday.
It was an excellent performance from the 10-time Australian Open champion, who needed three hours and 45 minutes to oust the American star, per ATP.
Djokovic, who improved to 9-0 against Fritz, blasted 52 winners and won 82 per cent of his first-serve points in the quarter-finals.
Next up for the 24-time Grand Slam champion is a semi-final clash with Sinner.
The 36-year-old has fared well in his past Grand Slam meetings with Sinner, winning each of their previous two matches. Both of those meetings came at the Wimbledon Championships.
For Djokovic to extend that Grand Slam winning streak against Sinner, he will need to continue his solid play on the receiving end.
He won 40 percent of his receiving points and converted four of his 21 break-point opportunities against Fritz.
Sinner's road to the semi-finals
Sinner barged into his first career Australian Open semi-final with an impressive 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Rublev on Tuesday.
It was a remarkable performance from the 22-year-old, who needed just two hours and 39 minutes to record the straight-sets victory, per The Guardian.

FootballKey to the Italian star's win was his solid first serve. He won 76 percent of his first-serve points against the Russian.
His occasional forays to the net also paid dividends, as he won nine of his 11 points there in the quarters.
The road to the championship will only get harder for the No. 4 seed, though, as standing in his way in the semis is the unstoppable Djokovic.
The world No. 1 is a perfect 10-0 in his career in Australian Open semi-final matches.
Sinner will take comfort in the fact, however, that he has fared well in his past meetings against Djokovic. He has won two of his last three matches against the Serbian star in the Nitto ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals.
Writer's Prediction
Djokovic beats Sinner in five sets to reach his 11th Australian Open final.

It was sweet revenge for Sabalenka this time around, after losing to Gauff in the 2023 US Open final.
