FootballBlitzboks End Singapore 7s in Disappointing Fashion After Lacklustre Tournament
- The mighty Blitzboks were brought back down to earth this past weekend in the HSBC World 7s Series on the Singapore leg
- Their 35 match unbeaten run - a team record and the second-longest in the history of the competition - came to an end against the United States of America
- The return of Fiji and New Zealand was a very loud warning to the South Africans that the 2021/22 series was now truly underway
The Springbok Sevens team ended a dismal run at this year's Singapore Sevens as they bowed out of the 5th place semifinal with a 22-15 loss to Argentina.
Earlier the side had lost its quarterfinal 19-14 to Fiji while on day one they had lost their 35-game unbeaten record when the USA beat them in the final pool game.
Considering the Blitzboks were unbeaten in this year's HSBC World Sevens Series before the tournament and were defending Singapore Sevens champions the weekend will not go down well with them in terms of their own high standards for performances.
Agustin Fraga scored either side of halftime and was joined by Gaston Revol and Marcos Moneta on the scoreboard as they beat the Blitzboks and ensured the South Africans picked up less points than expected. Moneta was the same player who ended the Blitzboks Olympic Dream in Tokyo last year.
JC Pretorius, Selvyn Davids and Impi Visser scored for the Blitzboks.
