He was born on the 28th of November, 1986 (37 years old as of February 2024) in Fontana, California, to Mexican immigrant parents. Leo Romero is a second-generation immigrant of Mexican-American nationality. He has three siblings, two brothers and a sister.

At the start of his involvement with skating, Leo Romero received varying support from his family. He received little support from his dad compared to his mother and siblings. When asked about his father’s thoughts on his success by Thrasher Magazine, he said,

The former SOTY broke into the skateboarding world in 1997 at the age of eleven. At the time, the aspiring Pro skater skipped school for his favourite pastime.
