Deauzya 'DiDi' Richards was born and raised in Houston, Texas, to Damian and Ungeanetta Richards. She has one sibling, Damian Richards.

She began to explore her athletic abilities in the sixth grade. Her father's involvement in this decision inspired her to choose basketball after trying karate and gymnastics. Speaking to SlamOnline, she said,

“My dad pushed me to play sports because I was a late bloomer. I did not play sports until the sixth grade. My first basketball game was in the Cipher League.”
