Who has the most Stanley Cups in the NHL? The Habs have 24 wins in their cap, the highest number a team has attained. Who won 4 Stanley Cups in a row? The Montreal Canadiens won five back to back trophies from 1956 to 1960.

Out of their total wins, 23 came after the establishment of the NHL. Additionally, the ice hockey team held the record for most championships by a team in one of the major North American sports until 1999.

2. Toronto Maple Leafs - 13

The Toronto Maple Leafs team, also known as The Leafs, is among those who have the most Stanley Cups in NHL history, having bagged the title 13 times. The team has the most players in the Hall of Fame than any other NHL team.

3. Detroit Red Wings - 11

The Detroit Wings have 11 Stanley Cups in the team’s history. One of the crew’s significant players is Steve Yzerman, the longest-serving captain who helped the crew win four trophies.

Boston Bruins was founded in 1924. The Boston-based team is among the oldest NHL teams, including the Detroit Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

5. Chicago Blackhawks - 6

The Blackhawks’ most recent victory was in 2015. The franchise was founded in 1926 and was previously known as Black Hawks. Like the Boston Bruins, they have won the Stanley Cup six times.

The New York Rangers, based in Texas, have won the Stanley Cup four times, in 1928, 1933, 1940, and 1994. The franchise was established in 1926 by Tex Richard and nicknamed Texas Rangers after the popular TV show.

The success of any NHL team is significantly dependent on the coach. Who has the most Stanley Cups as a coach? A Canadian national, Scotty Bowman, ranks highest, with nine wins. He won with the Montreal Canadiens in 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979. 

In 1992, he led the Pittsburgh Penguins to one of their Stanley Cup victories and then joined the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, 1998, and 2002. Joel Quenneville of the Chicago Blackhawks has three Stanley Cup wins. He led the franchise to victory in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

2. Jean Beliveau - 10

Jean’s professional career ran between 1953–1971. He won as a team member of the Montreal Canadiens and another seven titles as the franchise's executive vice president. The athlete passed away in December 2014.

3. Yvan Cournoyer - 10

Yvan was part of the Montreal Canadiens for 16 seasons, from 1963 to 1964, then from 1978 to 1979. He is one of the athletes with the most Stanley Cup wins. (10).

4. Claude Provost - 9

Provost played for the Montreal Canadiens for 15 seasons between 1955 and 1970 and is among only five athletes who played more than 1,000 games. He died in April 1984.

5. Maurice Richard - 8

Maurice has eight Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens. He was the first NHL player to score 500 goals in a career and 50 in one season. The legendary player died in May 2000. 

Other players who attained eight trophy wins include Red Kelly, Jacques Lemaire, and Serge Savard. Jean-Guy Talbot and Bernie Gioffrion won the Stanley Cup seven and six times, respectively.

Older players stuck to one team throughout their careers. Today, players join different teams every other season. Patrick Maroon has won the cup three times. In 2019, he won with the St. Louis Blues before moving to the Tampa Bay Lightnings, where he won the cup in 2020 and 2021.

Before that, Cory Stillman won the trophy in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightnings and in 2006 with the Carolina Hurricanes. Claude Lemieux won with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and the Colorado Avalanche in 1996.
