The Premier League transfer window is set to be ignited by the recent social media activity of Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Leicester City forward liked a post on X from Aston Villa celebrating Ollie Watkins, the club's player of the season.

The Nigerian's actions have fuelled speculation about a potential move to Villa Park following rumours of a possible exit earlier in the year.

As per Soccernet, the 27-year-old Super Eagles star's contract with the Foxes expires in June, and reports suggest that Villa, who have secured a coveted UEFA Champions League spot for the upcoming season, are among the top clubs interested in securing Iheanacho's services.

The player's relationship with Leicester boss, Enzo Maresca, has been strained, as the Italian tactician often prefers Patson Daka over him in the starting lineup.

Iheanacho's limited playing time

Since returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Iheanacho has made just four appearances for the Foxes, leading to speculation about his long-term future at the club.

According to Punch NG, he was offered an improved contract worth £65,000 per week, but the player reportedly turned it down due to his frustration over the limited playing time.

Aston Villa, under the guidance of manager Unai Emery, are said to be keen on securing Iheanacho's signature, with the Spanish tactician being a huge admirer of his attacking skills.

Iheanacho among underperforming Nigerians

Sports Brief reported that Iheanacho faced his worst scoring run ever and was among the most underperforming Nigerians in Europe.

He had not scored since netting against Swansea in October 2023, despite having a stellar start to the 2023/24 campaign for the Foxes.

The forward made only one start since returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in February after being dropped to the bench by the team.
