FootballWemby's Dunks Highlight Great Performance vs. Blazers in Summer League: Video
- Victor Wembanyama bounced back in his second Summer League game on Sunday
- He brought the house down with back-to-back dunks against the Blazers
- The Frenchman struggled mightily in his debut against the Hornets last Friday
The real Wemby finally showed up on Sunday night.
Victor Wembanyama responded after his poor performance in his Summer League debut on Friday, registering a double-double in the San Antonio Spurs’ 85-80 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
He scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Spurs, whose late rally in the fourth quarter fell just short.
The Frenchman shot 9 of 14 from the field, including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc.
His last 3-pointer came with 1:58 remaining in the fourth quarter, which cut the Blazers’ lead to just one point.
Unfortunately for the Spurs, they weren't able to get over the hump as Portland finished the game on a 6-2 run.
Dunk party for Wemby
All eyes were on Wembanyama, who scored just nine points on 2 of 13 shooting in his first game for the Spurs, per Yahoo Sports.
He tripled that scoring output against the Blazers and also dazzled on the defensive end. The teen phenom recorded three blocks and one steal in 27 minutes of action.
He scored back-to-back monster dunks in the second quarter that sent the fans inside Thomas & Mack Center into a frenzy.
Spurs' Summer League schedule
It is still unclear whether the former Mets 92 star will continue to play in the Summer League. The Spurs have two games remaining here in Las Vegas.
They will play the Washington Wizards on July 11 and the Detroit Pistons on July 14.
When asked about his Summer League plans, the 19-year-old said he’s going to talk to Pop and “listen to what he’s going to say.”

FootballWembanyama posterized in debut
Sports Brief recently reported on Kai Jones dunking on Wembanyama in the Hornets vs. Spurs game.
The No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft was trying to defend a pick-and-roll action involving Jones and Hornets guard Nick Smith Jr.
As the French star rotated back to attempt to block the alley-oop, he was met by Jones, who threw down a thunderous dunk.
