Football2023 NBA Draft: Victor Wembanyama Unfazed by Pre Draft Hype
- Victor Wembanyama is not worried by the hype he got before the 2023 NBA Draft
- The 19-year-old is considered the best prospect since LeBron James
- Wembanyama is expected to become a future superstar in the NBA
Victor Wembanyama is one of the most exciting prospects in NBA history. He is not bothered by that hype.
Some consider him the best prospect since LeBron James. Over the past year, there's been thousands of articles, compilations, and debates about the Frenchman who had not played an NBA game.
The 7-foot-4 big man has attracted the attention of most NBA fans, which has made him a superstar already. This week, he landed in New York, signed autographs for fans, and strolled around the city. He seemed relaxed as cameras followed him everywhere he went.
San Antonio Spurs won the 2023 draft and are expected to select the Frenchman with the No. 1 pick. The hype around him is justified. His combination of size and skills have not been seen before in the league. The hype does not worry him.
"I don't let this, all this stuff, get into my head because I got such high expectations for myself that I'm immune to all this stuff. So I really don't care," via ESPN.
He was delighted the Sours got the No. 1 pick.
"For me, San Antonio is synonymous with winning," Wembanyama said. "When, on lottery night, when the Spurs got the No. 1 pick, I was just thinking, I was feeling lucky that they had pick as a franchise that has that culture and that experience in winning and making, creating good players. So I really can't wait."
The Spurs is a popular team in France because his former compatriots Tony Parker and Boris Diaw played for the team. Spurs have also had No. 1 picks twice before, Tim Duncan and David Robinson. The two went on to become Hall of Famers, per Sporting News.
