The 2022/23 season was James' 20th campaign in the NBA which he performed really well. He averaged 28.9 points and led the Lakers to the conference finals despite a 2-10 start to the season.

In Game 4 of the conference finals, he scored 40 points and essentially played all 48 minutes, per CBS Sports. His 20th year was great, and it remains to be seen if the four-time NBA champion can return next season.

Crawford on James' retirement

Three-time 6th Man of the Year Jamal Crawford recently said James can still play two or three more years in the NBA.

“You know what, I think he has another two or three seasons,” said Crawford. “He averaged just about 30 points this year, and so I’m not sure his mind would want him to stay in it. That’s the more impressive part to me is to be at that level for that long mentally." via Basketball Network.

Crawford is one of many NBA players that played into their 40s. James turns 39 in December, and it remains to be seen if he will still be physically great to go on.

Moreover, James reportedly spends over $1m on his body, so we could see him perform at a high level in the next few seasons

Why James may not retire

Sports Brief earlier reported on why James may not retire from the NBA.

Retiring now does not make financial sense to James since he signed a two-year $97 million deal last summer. He also said he is looking forward to playing with his son in the league.

Moreover, winning a fifth ring will be the icing on the cake since has nothing else to prove in his career.
