Draymond Green wants the Boston Celtics to create history in this year's playoffs.
The Golden State Warriors star revealed on the latest episode of his podcast for The Volume that he is rooting for the Celtics to complete the improbable comeback against the Miami Heat.
The Celtics are halfway to becoming the first NBA team to win a best-of-seven series after going 3-0 down.
Green gave an interesting reason as to why he wants the Celtics to accomplish the historic feat.
Green rooting for Boston
The 33-year-old believes Miami squandering a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals would finally take some attention off Golden State’s epic collapse in the 2016 NBA Finals, where they blew a commanding 3-1 lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Green elaborated on the Celtics’ comeback attempt, saying:
“[Boston becoming] the first team to come back from a 3-0 deficit? We would love to see it, wouldn’t we? Maybe I won’t have to hear about 3-1 anymore if this team comes back from 3-0.”
Green wants people to forget about the Warriors’ meltdown, saying:
“You could throw the 3-1 in the dirt. I’m sick of it. It would be a much better story for me personally. It would be a much better story.”
That is wishful thinking on Green’s part, as the Warriors’ collapse happened on the biggest stage.
That Warriors team also had the greatest regular season in NBA history and was expected by many to win it all in 2016 after building a 3-1 lead in the Finals, per NBC Sports.
