  • The Warriors have come back from 3-1 down before
  • They will play two games at home if they make an improbable comeback

The Golden State Warriors are on the brink of elimination from the 2023 playoffs after losing Game 4 104-101 to the Lakers to go 3-1 down.

They have come back from 3-1 down before and are relying on that experience as they seek to mount an almost improbable comeback.

Steve Kerr's team are 1-14 all-time in series' after trailing 3-1. Their only comeback was in the 2016 Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder before squandering a 3-1 lead in the 2016 NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 2016 however, they won 73 games in the regular season and were the best team by some distance. This time around, they struggled all season. They couldn't win on the road and blew double-digit leads in several games. Therefore, they will need an almighty effort in the next three games.

In Game 4, they had a 12-point lead at some point, but it dissipated. They went into the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead but allowed the Lakers to make a 7-0 run to tie the game. They shot 29.3% from three.

They had several chances to steal the game but fell short. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green also committed costly turnovers late in the game. Curry finished with 31 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds but went 12-of-30 from the field and 3-of-14 from three, per the Athletic.

Warriors react to Game 4 loss

Klay Thompson, who was having a decent postseason, was poor in Game 4. He had just nine points in 41 minutes and shot 27.3% from the field and 33.4 from deep. He said his team can make history again.

"We made history before. The goal is to win one at home. We know we are capable of taking care of home court. It's about staying present and not looking ahead," via ESPN.

Curry felt the team had good looks late in the game.

"We had good looks that didn't go in, but we fought all the way down to the last second to give ourselves a chance to steal a win," Curry said. "Fourth quarter, we only scored 17 points. That's a tough way to finish."

Kerr understands what his team needs to do.

"You go home and you take care of business. You get a win. And the momentum is right back in your favor. That's all it is. Someone has to win four times. That's why you play it out."

The Warriors face the Lakers at Chase Center on Wednesday.

Is the Warriors' dynasty over?

Sports Brief earlier analyzed if the Warriors dynasty is coming to an end after the Game 4 defeat.

Their core, Curry, Thompson, and Green, are almost in their mid-30s, and their has started to show after years in the top level of the NBA.

Unless they come back from 3-1 down, they will have many decisions to make in the upcoming offseason.
