Cracks first started to emerge in their relationship when the Warriors lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals.

The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the championship series, losing the last three games and the title to LeBron James and the Cavs.

Barnes played a part in that epic collapse, struggling mightily during Games 5, 6, and 7. He shot 5 of 32 from the field, including 3 of 15 from beyond the arc during that three-game stretch.

He laid a goose egg in the Game 6 loss to Cleveland, going scoreless after missing all eight of his field goal attempts.

July 2016

The relationship took a turn for the worse the following month when the Warriors signed superstar, Kevin Durant via free agency.

In order for the Warriors to add him to their star-studded lineup, they had to let Barnes go. He later signed a four-year, $94 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Warriors made Durant their top priority during the offseason, with Green, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala all going to the Hamptons to recruit the former MVP.

Their pitch worked, with Durant agreeing to a two-year, $54.3 million contract with Golden State.

October 2020

Barnes remained good friends with his former Warriors teammates even after his departure. He even invited some of them to his wedding in 2020, with Curry and Thompson making the trip to Rhode Island to join in the festivities.

Former Cavs players, Kyrie Irving and Richard Jefferson were also seen at Barnes’ wedding.

There was one notable absentee, though, as Green was not invited to the nuptials. That didn’t sit well with the Warriors star, who believes Barnes still holds a grudge against him for helping bring Durant to the Bay Area, per NBC Sports.

Green discussed that in detail in his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, saying:

"Harrison Barnes, I think to this day don’t like me for KD coming here. And the reality is, I didn’t tell [Warriors GM, Bob Myers] to trade you to bring KD in.”

Green added that Barnes took it very personally because of the story that came out that he cried to KD in the car. He also brought up Barnes’ wedding in the discussion.

He said, “This dude invites Steph, Klay, everybody to his wedding except me.”

Green later admitted the plan to sign Durant was hatched a year before his blockbuster move to Golden State.

He admitted to taking slightly less money than he could with the Warriors in order to preserve some cap space for the possible Durant signing.

April 2023

Green appeared to shade Barnes after the latter missed a buzzer-beater in Game 4 that could have given the Kings a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.

He said on The Draymond Green Show that 'Harrison was ready to call us every b-word if he made that shot, as we all know'.

"It was great to see him miss it," he added.

Green explained that the Warriors’ plan all along was to force De’Aaron Fox to give up the ball in the dying seconds and to kick it out to Barnes, who was wide open.

The Golden State star was thrilled their plan worked, telling Curry after the game, 'we’ve seen that movie before'.

Warriors level series at 2-2

Sports Brief recently reported on the Golden State’s win over the Kings in Game 4 of the playoffs.

Steph Curry nearly cost the Warriors the game after calling an illegal timeout in the final minute.

The Sacramento team went on a 4-0 run after that and very nearly stole the victory on the road.
