NBALonzo Ball Injury Update: Knee Problems Persist for Chicago Bulls Star as He Is Shut Down for the Season
- The Chicago Bulls have decided to shut down Lonzo Ball for the rest of the season
- In January last year, he suffered a knee injury against the Golden State Warriors
- Ball is experiencing discomfort despite undergoing two surgeries on his hurt knee
What in the world is happening to Lonzo Ball?
The Chicago Bulls announced on Tuesday, February 21, that the 25-year-old guard would not return this season.
The second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Ball has not played for the Bulls since suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee in January 2022.
Ball has undergone two surgeries on his left knee since the injury occurred, the first in late January last year and the second in September, at the start of Chicago’s training camp, per Yahoo! Sports.

The operations have yet to entirely solve the problem though, with the guard still unable to cut, jump, or run without pain despite some minor improvements in the past few months.
Bulls vice-president, Arturas Karnisovas gave an update on Ball’s condition in a team statement, saying that he 'continues to experience performance-limiting discomfort' while participating 'in high-level basketball-related activities'.
The main focus now for the 25-year-old is to find a resolution to the discomfort he is still feeling in his left knee, in order for him to be fit for the 2023-24 season.
The news of his shutdown was not a surprise, considering he has struggled to ramp up basketball activity with the Bulls this season because of the injury.
Beverley moves back home
Sports Brief also reported on Patrick Beverley signing with the Bulls. The veteran guard became a free agent after the trade deadline, with the Orlando Magic deciding to waive him.
