Michael Malone and his Denver Nuggets coaching staff are going to the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. The 51-year-old got the nod to coach Team LeBron in the showpiece event after the Nuggets clinched the best record in the Western Conference through Sunday, February 5.

Malone and the rest of his staff booked their trip to Salt Lake City for this year’s All-Star Weekend on Wednesday night after the Memphis Grizzlies lost to the Portland Trail Blazers. All-Star coaches are based off which NBA teams have the best slate in each conference a couple of weeks before the game.

The Denver Nuggets have stamped their class in the West, posting a 35-16 record through their first 51 games. With that strong start, Malone will now have the opportunity to coach LeBron James and 11 other All-Stars in one of the biggest events on the NBA calendar.

Malone, Jokic to team up?

The question now is: will he coach his star player Nikola Jokic in the All-Star Game? That decision lies with LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who will be picking their respective teams right before tip-off, according to ESPN.

If James selects Jokic in the draft, Malone will team up with the two-time reigning Most Valuable Player once again. If Antetokounmpo chooses the Serbian big man, Malone gets the rare chance to coach against Jokic.

Team LeBron aiming for perfection

James has been spot on with his selections thus far, with Team Lebron racking up a 5-0 record ever since the NBA changed the All-Star Game’s format back in 2018. The pressure now is on Malone and co. to keep that unbeaten slate intact in Utah.

Malone has experience coaching James in the All-Star Game. He led Team LeBron to a 178-164 victory over Team Giannis in the 2019 edition that was held in Charlotte. He will look to replicate that feat this year.

Green pays tribute to James

Sports Brief earlier reported on Draymond Green naming three reasons why James is the greatest face of the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors forward said that LeBron has never had a scandal and never been arrested during his NBA career and those go hand in hand with his longevity, durability and consistency.

James and Green have forged a bond recently with the two stars becoming business partners. They also share the same agent in Klutch Sports’ Rich Paul.
