The interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, has disclosed that Nigerians will be happy with the team performance during the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, Complete Sports reports.

Nigeria are drawn in Group D alongside Pharaohs of Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan in the preliminary round of the tournament.

Eguavoen who was mandated to step in for sacked Gernot Rohr believes his team will excel at the tournament which starts in Cameroon on January 9.

The Super Eagles who won the competition in 2013 will be gunning for their fourth title at the continental showpiece.

But they will have to contend with best teams on the continent including the likes of Senegal, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Cameroon.

And in a chat with Nigeria Info FM, ex-international Eguavoen disclosed that expectations are high, but says his side will do everything to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

Eguavoen said via Score Nigeria:

“Expectations are high, but we are equal to the task. We want to try and bring smile on the faces of Nigerians at the AFCON.
“We have intelligent players, who will play the way we want them to play. We want all 11 players working together. We will play with 11, attack with 11 and defend with 11.”

Eguavoen to invite five new players for AFCON

Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has disclosed that he is working on inviting about five new players to the Super Eagles ahead of the forthcoming AFCON tournament.

Reports have it that the team’s camp will be thrown open at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo as from December 28.

Shehu Sani calls out CAF for excluding Nigerian refs for AFCON

Sports Brief earlier reported that a former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has decried the exclusion of Nigerian referees from the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon which kicks off on January 9.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has again excluded Nigerian centre referees from the list of officiating officials at the forthcoming tournament.

It was gathered that just one Nigerian, Samuel Pwadutakam, was listed as an assistant referee by the continental body for the competition.
