Nigerian legend Vincent Enyeama has been named as the greatest African goalkeeper of all-time by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

There is no doubt about the fact that Enyeama was an excellent goalkeeper during his active playing days considering his achievement in the national team, Super Eagles.

Enyeama was in goal for Nigeria in their campaign at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa which they won.

He left the Super Eagles in 2015 after having issues with former coach Sunday Oliseh who preferred Ikeme over the ex-Lille stopper.

Enyeama was selected based on his outstanding performances for club and country during a career that spanned over a decade, IFFHS said.

Enyeama's other competitors

The former Enyimba goalie was rated ahead of other legendary goalkeepers from the continent, including Joseph-Antoine Bell, Thomas N’Kono, and Essam El-Hadary.

How the journey started

Enyeama started his career at Ibom Stars in 1999 before moving to Enyimba two years later where he established himself winning the league title and CAF Champions League.

In the Super Eagles, Enyeama featured in 101 games for the three-time African champions.

Enyeama, Peter Rufai ranked

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former Nigerian international Vincent Enyeama emerged No.1 in the top ten goalkeepers who ever featured for the Super Eagles.

The former Enyimba of Aba shot-stopper amassed 101 appearances for Nigeria between 2002 and 2015, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.

During his stint at French club Lille, Enyeama set a record as the most outstanding goalkeeper in their history, having made 164 appearances in all competitions.

He kept a staggering club record of 11 consecutive clean sheets for the side, which earned him the 2014 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé, an award given to the best African player in Ligue 1.
