  • There are speculations in the media that the Portuguese tactician has not been paid since he took up the job
  • Secretary General of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi has disclosed that there is a cordial relationship between both parties

Mohamed Sanusi, the secretary general of the Nigeria Football Federation, has decried comments from several quarters that the football house is having it rough with Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro.

There are reports in several sections of the media that Peseiro, who was appointed in May, is yet to receive a salary.

It was gathered that the situation has led to a breakdown of the relationship between both parties, but Sanusi branded the remarks as 'outright falsehoods'.

“Most of these speculations and innuendoes are simply ridiculous, because we have no problem whatsoever with Mr. Peseiro. He is doing his job as Head Coach of the Super Eagles and, contrary to some of the more fictitious claims, he has not reported the NFF to FIFA with regards to his wages."

Sanusi made an appeal to the media to 'get their facts right' before going to press. He added there was no need to speculate and engage in half-truths and outright falsehood in matters of this kind.

"Some of these speculations and innuendoes create disharmony and disenchantment in key quarters. The NFF and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development are working on Mr. Peseiro’s wages, and these will be settled shortly.”

Reports had filtered in that the Portuguese tactician is being owed about six months of his salary, having received only allowances and bonuses.

The current law by FIFA grants the manager grounds to terminate his contract without prejudice, and he must also be paid in full.

Nigeria prepare for Costa Rica

Sports Brief earlier reported that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will trade tackles with Costa Rica in an international friendly, scheduled for San Jose on November 10.

Coach of the Nigerian team, Jose Peseiro is yet to name his squad for the encounter, which is the first-ever international friendly between both countries.

It is believed the Eagles' camp opened in Ibadan on Monday with assistant coach Salisu Yusuf present, alongside 15 home-based players.
